Orcs Must Die! is a new type of tower defense game with a not so serious look. It invites players to as cruelly and grotesquely as possible kill orcs to keep your tower safe. But it does it in third person. It's not a top down traditional approach to the genre. Lay your traps and get ready because there's a bunch of orcs and other nasties coming and they are all tasted up for blood! It's kill or be killed, cut throat, and down right gross at times action that drives Orcs Must Die!
In the words of Robot Entertainment, Orcs developer, the game encourages players to show “a blatant disregard for the welfare of orcs.” The grumpy and generally unpleasant orc army is invading the Order's stronghold trying desperately to gain control over the rifts and it is your job to defend it at all costs! The Order is a group of war mages that are sworn to protect the worlds beyond the rifts. The protagonist is a young apprentice who has recently been promoted to a mage, so basically he's a bit of a noob and is stuck fighting an entire army pretty much by himself. He is the last line of defense between peace and a mob of pissed off orcs.
Luckily he has a cavalcade of traps and defenses to help players emerge victorious. The mage can use weapons like his trusty crossbow which has rapid fire and is so accurate that it can take an orc's head clean off, if you're into that sort of thing not that Robot promote senseless violence against orcs(wink wink). Players can also set traps to take care of the pesky mob without getting dirty. The game has floor spikes that will pop up to dispatch orcs as well as platforms that will launch them into the acid that surrounds the levels. Not your style? Maybe wall spikes or pits of bubbling tar is more to your liking. It doesn't matter which you choose all that matters is you kill'em good! If you're feel that you simply can not take them on by yourself players can call in the Elven Archers. The archers are a crack team of experts that will unleash a storm of arrows on the orcs if you find yourself in a tight spot.
Orcs Must Die! will be available for download on PC and consoles later this year. Until then plan your defense and practice your girly screams! For updates on the game check out Robot Entertainment's website.
