Do you like free stuff? Do you like Spore? If you answered yes to both questions, then you’re in luck!

To promote their release of the upcoming Spore Hero and Spore Hero Arena on October 6th, Maxis has launched a free 2-D Creature Creator flash application. In your quest to create Darwin’s ultimate evolutionary nightmare you’ll have access to over 250 individual body parts, including (but not limited to) claws, horns, tails, and antennas. When all the pieces are in place, you can paint your creature and give it a name. The fierce beast you see below is "Crab Dragon" and his hobbies include dancing, karaoke, and murder.

Once you’re satisfied with the mutant freak of nature you’ve created, you will need to hone its fighting skills. That’s where the Spore Creature Trainer mini-game comes in, challenging you to block and dodge an endless barrage of projectiles to sharpen your reflexes and fine-tune your defenses.

Spore Creature Creator 2-D should keep you busy and give you a taste of the Spore universe before the Spore Hero for the Wii and Spore Hero Arena for Nintendo DS release on October 6th.
